Grilled Almond Butter & Jelly

Have you seen the grilled nut butter and jelly trend on social media? It totally lives up to the hype.

Not all viral recipes live up to their hype.

That pasta chip recipe a while back was literally just crunchy pasta. And don’t even get me started on that whole thing where a bowl of berries was called “cereal.”

But this grilled nut butter and jelly trend? Definitely lives up to the hype.

Don’t get me wrong: a classic PB&J or AB&J is already delicious. Plus, it’s fast, easy, and nutritious.

But if you feel like elevating the flavor profile in your AB&J just slightly, grilling it is the way to go. It makes the bread super crispy with a buttery taste. Plus, then I added a little honey and flakey sea salt for that sweet and salty flavor profile.

I made this one with Justin’s honey almond butter, but I love it with peanut butter too.

Now the important question is: which flavor jelly are you putting on it? I’m choosing strawberry, hands down!

Spread almond butter

Spread the almond butter on one slice of bread.

Almond butter: Any nut butter will work here - creamy, crunchy, almond, or peanut.

Bread: Use your favorite bread - white, sourdough, whole wheat, or a gluten-free bread.

Spread jelly & top with bread

Spread jelly on the same slice of bread.

Top with the second slice of bread.

Jelly: When I say jelly, I’m really talking about jam. Jam is made with the whole fruit (not just the juice). But you can use jelly, jam, or preserves.

Grill for 2-3 min

Add butter to a small pan over medium heat. Add the sandwich and grill for about 2-3 minutes on each side, pressing down gently as needed, until each side is golden brown.

Cut in half and top!

Cut in half and top with honey and salt if desired.

OTHER ADDITIONS TO TOP:

  • Nutella : Try it in the sandwich or on top - it would be so good!

  • Bananas: Slice bananas and add them in between the bread. They’re so delicious with nut butter and jelly.

  • Chopped peanuts or almonds: Add another texture into the mix to make this sandwich even more delicious.
