Viral Avocado Ice Cream

This Viral TikTok Avocado Ice Cream is surprisingly so good. I didn’t know what I expected from it, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I have to admit, every viral recipe I’ve tried from TikTok has been a hit.

I guess that’s why they’ve gone viral.

Deni sent me this avocado ice cream and I was intrigued, but skeptical.

For starters, avocado isn’t necessarily the first flavor that comes to my mind when I think of ice cream (although, thanks to Instagram, I’ve learned that it’s common in other countries to eat avocado flavors as dessert!).

Also though, this recipe cooks the eggs with the hot liquid. As someone who’s hyper aware about making sure food gets cooked well enough, I’m not gonna lie, this worried me.

But, this avocado ice cream surpassed all my expectations.

It’s delicious. It’s made with real sugar and cream, just like real ice cream, and tastes just like any regular ice cream you’d get at an ice cream shop.

The avocado flavor works too! You do have to like avocado though. If you don’t, you won’t like this this ice cream.

And of course, the eggs were cooked fully too. Much easier than it seemed and such a relief!

I also love that this recipe is no churn - truly the easiest way to make ice cream!

The original recipe is from Dylan B. Hollis on TikTok. I followed his recipe almost to a T, but added one step to make things a bit more smooth.

Instead of pouring the avocado through a sieve, I blended eveything together until smooth.

Remember, you have permission and are allowed to enjoy ice cream - and any dessert - any time you’d like.

When you know that, and when all foods are allowed, they simply become nonchalant parts of your diet vs. overly tempting forbidden foods.

Enjoy it!!

Mix everything together

In a saucepan, combine sugar, salt and milk. Mix and bring to a low simmer.

While the milk mixture is simmering, add the eggs to a large bowl. Once the milk is hot and simmering, while whisking the eggs, cook them slowly by pouring in the hot milk. Continue to mix well.

Add in the heavy cream, mashed avocado and lemon juice.

Transfer mixture to a blender and blend until smooth.

Freeze the mixture

Pour mixture into a loaf pan and place in the freezer overnight, or for at least 6 hours.

All the toppings

Just like with any ice cream, any toppings go here!

Like mint chocolate chip ice cream? Add mint leaves and mix in chocolate chips.

What about a chocolatey avocado ice cream? Add cacao nibs or chocolate chips to the mixture.

Nut fan? Add crushed pistachios or almonds!

I personally loved rainbow sprinkles and chocolate chunks on top.

Everything else you need to know

  • Milk: I used whole milk and wouldn’t recommend straying from it. The fat helps with the creaminess!

  • Avocado: Make sure your avocados are super ripe. Think: soft and mashable.

  • Storage: Store ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer. It will last for up to 3 months.
