Meet the Intern: Julia DiPietrantonio

Hi! I’m Julia. I graduated in 2017 from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development & Family Studies and a Minor in Nutrition. Currently, I’m a graduate student at NYU to receive my Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition. I live in Westchester, NY and like to think of myself as a “professional commuter” at this point! I’m loving my journey as an “RD-to-be” and can’t wait to see what my future holds when I become a registered dietitian.

How did you get into the field of nutrition?

I’ve always been, what people refer to today as, a “foodie.” I grew up in a family where my parents prepared home cooked meals every night and going to the supermarket was considered a fun event. Some of my best childhood memories were surrounded by family and great food. During my sophomore year of college, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and met with a registered dietitian who had such a positive impact on my life. Since then, I’ve been determined to be an RD because this field helped me become the healthiest version of myself; physically, mentally and emotionally.

What do you see yourself doing as a dietitian?

This is a tough one – I’m still exploring my options! I most likely see myself in women’s health focusing on conditions such as PCOS, diabetes and other health-related diseases. In the future, I would love to have my own private practice where I can help women feel their very best.

Favorite food(s)?

My number one is a tie between dark chocolate and crunchy almond butter - I can’t go a day without either of them. Some of other favorites include roasted Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes and honeycrisp apples.

Least favorite food(s)?

Anchovies.

Favorite meal to cook?

Spaghetti squash with turkey bolognese.

Fun fact?

I’ve been skydiving in Queenstown, Australia. Highly recommend!

When I’m not at school, you can find me: at Barry’s Bootcamp, a hot yoga class or cooking in my kitchen.

Julia has been interning with Sammi since September 2018 and is finishing up in June 2019 before starting her Dietietic Internship at NYU! Follow her on Instagram at @fuelsbyjules.
